The surgeon will make a small gastric bag in the the LAP-BAND surgery.It will restrict the amount of food the stomach will hold at any one time. The inflatable ring controls the flow of food from this smaller pouch or bag to the rest of the digestive tract. The patient will feel full with even with a small amount of food. Because of the slow emptying, the patient will continue to feel full for many hours reducing the temptation to eat between meals or large meals.
